Tamiya 1/48 P-51 Mustang

March 26, 2019 · in Aviation · · 20 · 2K

Hello,
This is my view of one famous "Blue Noser Bastard From Bodney". Neeedless to say the kit is superb, no need to use any putty at all.
It seems, looking at the few pictures available, this particular bird was kept in good shape, in general. Therefore, the weathering is subtle, but I decided to add some dirt as it would be expected operating from those muddy airfields in England.

PE and canopy masks from Eduard.

Cheers!

  1. Great job - can't beat those Tamiya kits, can ya...? πŸ™‚

  2. Thank you! That's true, they're awesome. To be perfect, only if they provide colors matches from other brands for their mixing paints instructions. πŸ™‚

  3. WOW !

I'll sum it up in one word...

A terrific build. Looks authentically weathered and put together like a pro.

    Kudos, George.

  9. Nice. What paints did you use?

    • Thank you. Fuselage and wings were painted with automotive paints, far more resistant than model colors. Fine aluminium for the fuselage and high speed aluminum for the wings, since these were not NMF.
The blue color was a mix of Aqueous Gunze H328 (Blue), H25 (Sky Blue) and H11(Flat white)

  10. Looks great! One of my first builds was that same pony in 1/72. Love the scheme of blue on silver.

  11. That's a fine looking pony George. I like it a lot.

  12. πŸ™‚ … Greetings … πŸ™‚ :
Nice work on that Mustang, looks good in every angle George. Good work on the weathering.

  13. What a super NMF finish! The overall looks of your Mustang is outstanding. Did you used any extra goodie in the cockpit?

  14. Good job on nailing one of the "several" shades of blue the 352nd FG used. The "official" blue was a mixture of paints, and varied slightly from batch to batch depending on who was doing the mixing.

Nice work on this model. The overall result is excellent.
