Big Thanks: iModeler March Award

April 18, 2019 · in News · · 18 · 1.6K

I want to thank Martin & the iModeler team for selecting me to receive the March iModeler award. I know this is a "picked out of a hat" award, but I literally have never won anything in the last 68 years of my life (if you don't count my wife). This makes the award very special and much appreciated. I'm thinking that an out-of-the-box article on this kit might be in the future. Thanks again everyone.

  1. A well-deserved congratulations, George ...and I like that F-100 in your display case
(it matches your watch, too - πŸ™‚ )

  2. Congratulations, George - and a great choice of gift. Look forward to seeing the build.

  3. Congratulations George!

  4. Random or not it’s an all too deserved award George. Congratulations! Nice model shelf on the background

  5. Congrads on the award George, and nice pick as well. Some good looking models on display behind you too. I also see you've been shopping at IKEA from the looks of that display case.

    • You caught me shopping at Ikea! I really like some of the Ikea display cases because they have some with shelves that are wider than the normal 12 inches. I have bought several with the wider shelves, two that are about 6 feet tall, and two that are waist high. Now that I am retired and actually building the models in my garage, the cases provide a short-term display answer for my built kits. After so many years of not having time to build much, filling the cases with models is sort of cool.

      • Glad to hear the display cases have worked out for you. I'm a part time employee at the IKEA store in West Chester, Ohio, and build all of the stores' furniture displays. Recognized your case immediately, and have several of the IKEA Billy book cases with glass shelves and doors. And yes it's fun to fill them with completed models.

        • My only problem with Ikea is that my house doesn't have enough room for more of their cases. I think that is the biggest herd of P-51s & p-40s that I have ever seen in one place. Awesome collection! 1/48th?

          • All 1/48 rarely build 1/72 do to age, fat hands and eye sight. However, one could fit more models in that scale in a book case.

  6. Congratulations. I won it years ago and felt the same thrill. Got a 1/48 Airfix Spitfire XIX.
    ?

  7. Enjoy, George! I liked their 1/48 Airfix P-40B, I posted here not too long ago, and I'm now doing a quick OTB of their Spitfire MK.22/24.

  8. George,

I've got the Airfix Hurricane and the Hasegawa Hurri on the bench and by far the Airfix kit is the easier of the two to build. Congratulations on being a winner. It used to be that everyone got their 15 mins of fame on the TV. But, with the internet and the cloud you can be a winner forever, or until someone pulls the plug. Looking forward to seeing that winning Hurricane.

  9. Congrats George ! You picked a great kit.

I recently built one of the 1/48 Airfix Hurricanes for the 100 Years of the RAF Group Build, and it was a real pleasure to build. I think you will like it too.

An out of the box article would be very nice. Please consider doing that. πŸ™‚ I like your display case too. Filling them up is the fun part !

    • Thanks Louis, I'm looking forward to building the Hurricane. I think you know that I have taken the pledge to keep my modeling efforts simple, so I have to admit being a little intimidated by the thought of doing a OOB build when this site is full of kits that are built by modelers with skills far better than mine. But I am a fearless (or stupid) guy, so I plan to start building the Hurricane as soon as I knock out the model I am working on now.

  10. Congrats George! Like the others, I like the display case - with models of course! πŸ™‚

  11. πŸ™‚ … Greetings … πŸ™‚ :
Very well deserved George, hope too see this fine gem posted here soon.

  12. Congratulations and well deserved. Great kit too so looking forward to your building reports on the Hurricane.
And...like the others, love your display case and it seems there are a lot of nice items in it.
