HP Victor B.2 1/144 (GWH+Shelf Oddity)

April 5, 2019 · in Aviation · · 11 · 2.6K

GWH kit with Shelf Oddity details and refueling probe & pitots from Master.

This is XL164 B.2, Blue Steel aircraft. Modelled without Blue Steel. With no evidence to the contrary I assumed that when no missile was carried, the bomb bay doors had been replaced. This is an important factor/excuse, as I tried to be reasonably accurate, but still be able to finish the model within a decade.

The base is supposed to represent Cottesmore Airbase taxiway after storm, drying quickly in scorching tropical sun of England. Why the aircraft itself is dry? - you may ask. Well it has just landed after good weather flight. Post-flight ministerial inspection from M.o.S.W. is about to begin.

It took some effort to photograph this white whale, especially as I tried to show the subtle effect created by polishing panel centers and leaving panel lines matt.

  1. Looks great - such a cool-looking aircraft. Well done.

  2. Nice job...don't see many of these built. I like it.

  3. Looks great! love the ground crew.

  4. I’m gonna have to look up this aircraft as I know nothing about it. The rain drying runway is perfect. Totally works. The fact that this is so small is also a testament to your skills. The LEGO mini figure is a nice touch for scale.

  5. Very nice. I did the one twice this size. Yours looks good.

  6. The Dear Leader of the Department of Funny Walks out for an inspection round? Sorry, didn´t spot the big white thing in the background due to Cleese in 1/144. Victor is always a favourite and you made it well.

  7. Nice work! I’m a big Victor fan too.

  8. Terrific project, I also like the rain soaked runway. Nice to see people having fun with the hobby and if anything, the fun elements add to the sombreness of this Cold War monster.

  9. Seeing inspector Clueso goose stepping on the tarmac...caught my eye. It also reminds me of Peter Sellers playing President Merkin Muffley saying,"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" in Dr. Strangelove.

I always view the hobby as being on the thin gray line of plastic...it is a reflection of the greater society you can either laugh or cry at but, in many ways the "Cold War" is not over and there are more players than ever. The recent spat over Kashmir comes to mind and we ain't talking about pretty women in sweaters.

Lovely model and play on having fun with the hobby and showing a little history or reality. Some of those shots with out the figures are fantastic and are deserving of the judges consideration. Thank you for sharing Leszek.

    Reality, what a concept.

  10. Impressive bomber! Looks great!

  11. That is a very impressive build.
I have built a couple of their Vulcans, and started the Victor a few years back.
Your effort has encouraged me to finish mine.
