Seafire III landing aboard an unidentified carrier on April 1st, part of Operation Iceberg at Okinawa. Interestingly for modelers, the lighter tone of the aerilon and wingtip on the left wing is not a specific marking but a function of fitting spares on board a carrier in theatre. Mechanics report many such miss-matched panels due to lack of time to paint in fleet standards.

  1. Great pics as always, David. USS Idaho, along with New Mexico and Mississippi were unique among US battleships in the way they were modernized during the ‘30s. They were given British style tower masts instead of the more common American tripods. These ships really need to be done in 1/700 plastic.

  2. Thanks, John. I need to make more ships.

I was really hurried posting this one today and had some concerns this’d be the day that stopped the series. Just a really rubbish day (we all have ‘em) and only just got home. But, I kind of think like the pilots do with days like this - any one of them you walk away from...

Thanks for the comment, appreciate the support.

  3. Air Group 83 and Essex would set a fleet record of 92 days on station - April 1-June 29.

  4. Thanks, Tom - you are a true gentleman.

  5. you sure know the way to an old man's heart first picture ...thank you for this project...and this is one of your best sets...well done

  6. Any day you can fall out of bed and make it through the day...is a good day in my book. I count my blessings every time I can log on and read whats being printed. Bad days and Good days are better than no day's. I was bracing for a Aprils fools day write up...thankfully we were spared the rod. Keep up the good work David.

  7. No, no April fool here, Stephen. Thanks for the kind comments and support.
