Tamiya 1/48 F4U-2 Marine night fighter Saipan

F4U-2 Corsair BuNo.02624 No.212 ‘Midnite Cocktail’ flown by Capt Howard W Bollman, VMF(N)-532, Kagman Field, Saipan, 14 April 1944…two kills

these had the bullet proof glass removed for night visibility

should not have had the blown canopy but i preferred it

two kills for a night fighter was pretty extraordinary, this guy was a hunter in a “hot spot”

most of these pilots didn’t fire their guns alot but they saved quite a few ships and downed pilots

they just did their dangerous jobs quietly like most fine military men

night fighter was a hairy dangerous occupation

night take-off and landings…was a kill’in business…relying on instruments a more technical job
