Tamiya 1/48 F4U-2 Marine night fighter Saipan

April 7, 2019 · in Aviation · · 18 · 2.2K

-2 BuNo.02624 No.212 'Midnite Cocktail' flown by Capt Howard W Bollman, VMF(N)-532, Kagman Field, Saipan, 14 April 1944...two kills

these had the bullet proof glass removed for night visibility

should not have had the blown canopy but i preferred it

two kills for a night fighter was pretty extraordinary, this guy was a hunter in a "hot spot"

most of these pilots didn't fire their guns alot but they saved quite a few ships and downed pilots

they just did their dangerous jobs quietly like most fine military men

night fighter was a hairy dangerous occupation

night take-off and landings...was a kill'in business...relying on instruments a more technical job
