Hello Imodeler! It's been a while. A few months ago you may remember me posting an article called "What is this?" You guys, with your expert knowledge of plane identification, guessed correctly. I am building a ! This update is of the tail section that I finally got around to finishing. Any tips for filling gaps of the balsa parts?

  1. Hey Jordyn. Looking good. I don't normally work in balsa but the few wood ship models I've built, I've used gap filling CA glue. Maybe look on the RC model websites for some advice. One word of advice...Experiment off the model with any new methods before trying it on your currents project.

  2. If you don't need structural strength, ordinary spackle (for patching holes in drywall) will work just fine for that. It dries quickly and is easy to sand. You can use CA, but on balsa wood it's hard to sand smooth because you end up cutting down more wood than glue because the glue is much harder.

    Is that the Guillow's kit?

  5. Yes, a brave man. Interesting tips on the gap filling.

  6. You could also look for microballoons. https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?I=TOPR1090
Easy to spread, easy to sand because you level it off when spreading! (The excess can go right back in the container.) There are other brands too. I used to get it in a cottage cheese sized tub and it would last forever! (And you could get a little spatula in there to scoop and then spread.)

  7. Hi Jordyn, I use talcum powder mixed with household enamel undercoat, as Jaime says spackle is a good option and would dry quicker !
