Eduard FW-190 A5 1/72: Oblt. Rolf Strohal, I./JG 1 Deelen, The Netherlands

May 19, 2019 · in Aviation · · 22 · 2.5K

Hi everybody, After a long abstinence I am back today with the type model, which I think I know best. I have dedicated myself to the "weekend kit" of the FW-190 A5 from in and added a set of etched parts to it.
I have used the relatively new color series of AK-Interactive, called "Real Colors" instead of using Mr. Hobby / Gunze as usual.
• For RLM 74 the AK no. RC 278
• For RLM 75 the AK no. RC 279
• For RLM 76 the AK no. RC 321
• Eduard Detail Set No. 72 620
• Air Master Series AM-72-012 for armament and pitot tube

The "all around" comes from various manufacturers or is, as in the case of the wooden hangar selfmade.
I would like to treat the topic of color separately and also answer questions about my techniques. I'm thrilled with the colors, as they are nice and matt have great color pigments that you can grind very well and the will dry quickly. To dilute the colors, water or alcohol do not work at all, so I have used the special AK thinner.
The insignia on the wing and on the fuselage are painted on. In addition, I have used finer printed maintenance stencils cause the Eduard m.E. are too bold in my opinion. In addition, I lacquer these small lettering very thin with RLM 76, then they look even finer.

Overall, an unproblematic kit, but also one that wants to be built exactly.
Since I always like to set my models in scene with scenery, I have also added a few neutral photos.
I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Ahh, it’s been some time since you posted one of your works here Andreas. Your Wurger is a splendid comeback, and as usual no one would notice it’s in your prefered scale, 1/72.
I’ve also been using Real Air colours lately (my last post, also a 190 was partially painted with them) and I share your enthusiasm and opinions regarding the brand. However, Gunze is still my gold standard for Luftwaffe subjects reasons being the in house stock I still own and the fact much friendlier smell

    • Hi Pedro, happy that you like my Würger : ) I missed your last 190 post, but will look at it asap! I have also a in house stock of Gunze colors an will still use them from time to time.
      Greetings Andy

  2. Lovely work that really does look very genuine. The figures especially, look terrific for 72nd scale.

  3. All I can say is, it's a good thing you posted a pic of the model on your workbench, because otherwise you'd have never convinced me that was a 72nd scale kit. WOW!

  4. Nice! I was surprised when I saw 1/72. Nice presentation with the photos.

  5. Andreas, nice to see your work return. This looks wonderful, the paint work looks great and being I've got a few of these kits on the shelve I'm paying particular attention. Nicely done !

  6. It’s really good to see you back here again and posting your work.

Wow ! Your 190 looks better in 1/72 scale than mine do in 1/48.

It’s definitely the work of a master builder. Impressive to say the least.

The photo backgrounds you have posed the plane in make it look even more realistic.

    Well done my friend.

Congratulations, Andreas! Kit building, painting, weathering, and presentation, all are perfect.

  9. Hello! Fantastic work and photography. The attention to detail is commendable, which brought this bird of prey into life!
The AK real colors have not yet passed through my airbrush, but I'm looking forward to it!
Congratulations on a great piece of work.
    Cheers!

  13. Andreas, this FW is beautifully built, finished, and photographed! 1/72nd scale? Never would have guessed that!

  14. Thank you Jeff!

  15. Love your work Andreas - and this one is another beauty! It goes without saying that your photographic work is always pleasing to the eye, and really sets your masterpieces off perfectly.

  16. Thank you very much Greg : )

  17. What's not to like? Awesome work Andreas!

  18. Beautiful work on this 190, @fletcher ! I’m about to start a 1/32 scale 190 and neither the aftermarket decals nor kit instructions are very helpful on colors. I’m searching imodeler to see what colors others have used. Yours is very nice and the figures amazing.
