Eject! Eject! Eject! Jolly Rogers F-14A continues

May 19, 2019 · in Aviation · · 8 · 1.8K

Chuck has an excellent review of this kit today, and I can tell you it builds like a dream. One area it needs attention from though is the seats. I bought Brassin seats, modified the cushions to the non-ribbed type, added a few missing bits and bobs and voila! Seats! I already mentioned the problem with Eduards seat belt color, another area that lacks is the face curtain/ejection handles. I fashioned mine from yellow and black needle point thread, twisted together, held with a "third hands" tool and then micro krystal klear was rubbed in with my fingers to keep the fuzz down and give it some structure. In order to make my kit the era I want, I bought some HAD decals for VF-84 CAG at the time frame I saw the jet when I was a young airman, a quickboost TCS pod and tail stiffeners. Now the TCS pod says "early", but it is the same it just has an aerodynamic lens cover on it. You can also get the "late" one which is the one actually without the cover. I decided to go with the one with the cover, as I can choose to cut it down, or leave the cover on. VF-84 at this time used a slightly different style of the Tactical Paint scheme, and I remember it having a distinctively blue hue to it. Anyway, more to come as I get farther along

  1. Looks great Rob. Novel idea with using the thread for the ejection handles. I wonder if you can do the same thing using yellow and black telephone wire ? Hmmmmm.

    Thanks for the updates.

  2. The seats are fantastic, a build onto their own. I'll be dating myself but remember VF-84's Phantoms at NAS Oceana .
