Lindberg 1/72 Coast Guard Tug Boat

May 17, 2019 · in Ships · · 7 · 5.6K

This ol' girl has been around for decades. Not to be confused with the the 1/87 Diesel Tug. (pictured last, and in an earlier article). It's a relatively simple, almost toy-like build.

The instruction sheet has "color call outs" which have to be interpreted with a little artists conception.

A little forethought is required during assembly so that you're not knocking smaller parts off. I sort of went off in all directions at once, and built it in sub assemblies. First the deck, then hull, and finally the top cabin and wheel house. Decals went on with no problems. The major stripes should be cut in thirds, and placed between the side rails instead of over them.

I added a figure to the 3 man crew, and, using the plastic "bow net"as a "base", I added string to make it a lot more realistic looking. It just took string, Elmer's Glue, some watered down paint, and time. I was somewhat pleased with the overall result. This kit is still available, with plenty of information on line for building it, and reference photos.
