Curtiss P-40N Warhawk, Chinese Air Force

June 22, 2019 · in Aviation · · 17 · 2.9K

Here's my rendition of the mythical , realised one year ago. It is the "N" version from , and I had some minor issues with fitting, especially the rear part of the fuselage (due to the engineering choosen by Hasegawa in order to minimize the numbers of molds regarding the huge number of versions).

The "N" is my preferred version, and I decided to do an exotic chinese version thanks to Techmod Decals. It was a test for me for weathering, and I am not really happy with the result, especially the aluminium chipping effect which is too heavy. I will do better next time. However, I applied filters there and there, and the result is not too bad, although pictures don't show it truely.

Something's wrong too: shape of the green spots (scallops?) at the trailing edges. I followed instructions from Techmod, wrong decision.

Despite all the mistakes, I hope you will enjoy the look of this racy bird.

Cheers!

  1. A very pretty Hawk, Stéphane. Love the weathering, which is just how I prefer aircraft, nice clean weathering. If that makes sense.

Colours look great and the photos are lovely. Top class post.

  2. Well to me it looks a very solid build Stephane, and that Sharkmouth with fierce eyes is fantastically applied. I think the weaker points you mention about are correct and no doubt a source for an even better outcome on your next project. Thanks for sharing

  3. great scheme and fine looking model

  4. I just love P-40s. Such a great bird. Your's is a great build. We all struggle with how much distressing is too much. To me this just looks like a well serviced fighter. If you like it, it's good build. Just getting the decals to look correct on a sharkmouth is test in itself, so nice job.

  7. Nothing wears teeth quite like a P-40. Great job

  8. Some say in France: "a meal without a dessert is not a meal". One can say in the same manner: "a P-40 without teeth is not a P-40"

  12. Well, I have a grin from looking at your P-40, Stephane! I LOVE teeth and a P-40 MUST have them. Period. End of discussion. LoL! REALLY well done Warhawk. The weathering is excellent, too.
Actually, the ONLY issue I have is that I can't make one this nice myself!
