F-4J Phantom Tamiya 1/32

June 9, 2019 · in Aviation · · 14 · 3.1K

Its been quite a while since I have posted anything so thought maybe time to do some more. I have been modelling away and frequently visit this and other sites. Maybe I been inspired!

I have always loved the and managed to get the Tamiya kit at a good price. As many know it really is a good kit and though some inaccuracies are well documented, it still builds in to a very attractive replica.

I have used Quickboost intake covers, as the inside intake areas is really quite a poor finish. I have used the kit decals for major markings, but found that the stencil data was not too my liking. Tamiya groups several together and I just not think that a good way to go.

I treated myself to some AOA Decals for the F-4J and was blown away by their quality and the very descriptive and well laid out placement plans. For me, money very well spent and hours upon hours decaling had to be spent to complete the model.

I am very pleased with the end result.

  1. Beautifully finished, those decals must have driven you nuts. Know a good shrink if you need one...

Very pretty Phantom. Where you going to put her - certainly not goin* to fit in that (really nice) display case.

    • No need for a shrink, well I hope not! Though at times with so many stencils to place at times I did think maybe! But AOA placement guides were really helpful and clear. I will certainly use that companies decals again.

As well you should be, Mark - your Rhino turned out beautifully. Very Nice !

  3. Very nice work. Definitely a triumph over the stenciling.

  4. Outstanding, mark. Excellent in all respects.

  5. That’s really sharp, Mark! Nice seeing big jets completed.

  6. A Phabulous Phantom! nice to see it in Triple threes marking.

  7. Love Phantoms, and yours looks great! The stenciling did come out beautifully. Nice job all the way around.

  8. Excellent Mark! Stencil madness, but hey, why print a maintenance manual if you can simply put the info right on the plane?

I'm kidding of course. But on a serious note, that a nice looking Phantom!

  9. Simply superb Mark!

  10. beautiful...isn't that a wonderful kit

  11. Thank you everyone and glad you appreciate what is a good model to build. There many good models displayed on here and I find inspiration in a good many.

  12. Absolutely beautiful job, especially the weathering and stencil placement. I have two Hasegawa 1/72 ones and am looking forward to building/stenciling them.
