F3H-2N Demon, VF-124

June 15, 2019 · in Aviation · · 19 · 2.2K

Hello imodelers,
I am happy to present my version of the -2N as my first model on this site.
It is the kit, with Eduard PE cockpit set. Painted with Aqueous Hobby Color and Vallejo Metal Color. Decals come from the excellent Furball sheet "Screamin' Demons" part two.
I hope you like it.
Cheers!
Stéphane

  9. This is so good, you make me wonder why I didn't bid on that eBay auction for one of these kits.

    Beautiful work, Stephane.

    • Thanks Tom.

Hobby Boss did a strange engineering job: cockpit and landing gears are of Tamiya-type, but fuselage and some details are not easy. However, I liked the tender plastic.

I strongly recommend to read Detail&Scale dedicated to the Demon. Not only pictures are of a great help, but mainly all is explained about the mess between the two references proposed by Hobby Boss. In short, they mixed up the short/long beaver tail versions. At last but not least, the worse mistake concern pylons and stations. Big correction to bring here, especially concerning type of pylons, which are wrong for external missiles in both references. I looked for some resin kits, in vain. As I am not an expert for scratch build, I simply decided to not show missiles.

But overall, the global aspect of the Demon is excellent.

  10. Beautifully built Stephane!

  11. Wow! I did not expect so many people! Thanks to all for your warmfull comments. Great motivation for the next model 😉

  12. Lovely build, colours are excellent. The finish really stands out as very, very good; what did you use to seal her?

    • Hi David,
By "seal", do you mean which varnish I used (I am French, I am not used with all terms)? So if I guessed right, I sprayed Microscale Micro Flat mixed with 50% alcohol (no Champagne, being French does not mean wine for all at anytime :-)).
I must say I met some bad issues with Micro Flat, some very small cracks there and there. I do not know why especially on some locations. Not sure I will use it again...

  13. Welcome Stephane. You have built an exceptional model; beautiful paint & weathering too, as well as nice clear photos. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
