Ilyushin Il-28 Beagle, Anigrand 1/144

June 23, 2019 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.5K

Another short-run resin kit from is the Il-28 Beagle, a bonus item in their offering of the Ekranoplan Bartini-Beriev VVA-14M1P in . This kit was ‚allmost done' for several years and finally finished only few weeks ago. I decided to live with a few shortcomings in order to get it finalized. Overall casting quality is good without bubbles or casting defects. Panel lines are somewhat on the heavy side but ok if not further accentuated. Looking on pictures from the real plane, the fuselage nose often points into the sky but the main wheels are pressure-less, then. Other pictures show the Beagle fuselage almost parallel to the ground. Therefore, I shortened the front leg - probably a little bit too much - which broke into several pieces during this exercise. I rebuilt it into a nice-looking (but not too accurate) front landing gear. I also replaced the way-too-short gun barrels with wire and added few antennas from plastic sheet. Looking on the photos of the finished model, I should have flattened the wheel tires for a more accurate look - I will do later... For now, I am more than happy that I have finished another one of these exotic kits.

  1. Looks pretty good from here, Thomas...despite the various "shortcomings" - 🙂

  2. Thomas, I think your Beagle looks outstanding! Flattened tires; cool, but not necessary. The other things you mentioned; no bother. In other words, it looks very much like what I've seen because most of those issues are not known by most of us! LoL!

Your NMF (Natural Metal Finish) looks very well done. REALLY good work, Thomas - thanks for sharing with us!

  3. Love these old Soviet jets Thomas - nice work!

  4. Interesting plane at a small scale, very cool to see it well done!

  5. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
Way to long since I last seen a Il - 28 Beagle in model form, nice work and finish on this one Thomas.

  6. Another fine entry with the lesser known kit but this time of a quite famous airplane. Wish that injected kit of Beagle was released in this scale. There are nice liveries of Finnish AF target tugs or Nigerian AF camouflaged planes from Biafra war well documented. Guys at Trumpeter are you listening? 😉

    • Fully agree! The Il-28 was a common cold war jet in the eastern hemisphere and in allied states in several versions. Therefore, the airplane deserves more attention AND should sell well as a kit - not only in 1/144.

  7. A nice looking Beagle - well done.

  8. Thomas:
Aside from it being a fine build, the photography is excellent. It looks terrific on that dark reflective surface, and stands out from the pack when it comes to the appearance of the photos. What did you pose the aircraft on - it looks like some kind of dark mirror.

    Thanks.

    • Dear Aldo, sorry for replying so late!

My photo setup is super simple:
      – black glass plate from IKEA (BESTA furniture series)
      – color-proof LED lamp
      – lightgrey photo cardboard for the background
      – IPhone camera
