1/72 Academy F-8E Crusader

July 17, 2019 · in Aviation · · 8 · 3.1K

I finished this today. F-8E. The model was painted with MRP paints. I added a resin ejection seat and wheels as well as a Master pitot tube. Markings are by Furball Aero-Design. The model depicts a F-8E of VF-101 "Satans Kittens" piloted by Lieutenant Commander John Nichols who in July 1968 scored the F-8's fifteenth aerial victory, a . Weapons loadout as two fuselage mounted AiM-9D sidewinders

  1. I would think that one of the kindest comments to a smaller scale build would be "looks like a bigger scale build", and that is certainly true to my eyes. Looks the part of 1:48 build, very well done with the finer details!

  2. Excellent "Gunfighter"!

  3. A most excellent rendition, my friend...even more so given the scale. Great job!

    Well done!

  5. Suck a beautiful looking model. Like the subtle panel lines and colored areas breaking up the simple camouflage scheme.

Apparently a number of Crusaders took off with their wings still folded. No checklist or catapult officers giving the pilot a word about this before firing the catapult?

Found this in the Wikipedia article "In all, 1,261 Crusaders were built. By the time it was withdrawn from the fleet, 1,106 had been involved in mishaps. Only a handful of them were lost to enemy fire in Vietnam." Hmmm...

  6. That's a great looking F-8 - love the paint and detail work. Well done.

  7. Awesome build. The panel lines look great.
