Farewell Tour 1

July 4, 2019 · in Ships · · 14 · 2.2K

For various issues, I stood down from most social media modelling forums over the last several months, but still managed to complete a few projects, which I'm posting here in a short sequence of Headlines.

That said, I'm now on sabbatical, so thanks for the memories.

Happy Modelling!

La Reale de France (The Royal France) was a galley of the French Galley Corps, and the flagship of the Fleet under Louis XIV. She was built in Marseille between 1682 and 1684.

This is the kit from the 1970s, with handmade linen sails.

  1. Well that is really not good news. But it was an honor modelling with you Rob. And you hit it off with this incredible ship. The sails is what pops when you first view the first image. I hope it is not a permanent move as I enjoyed all of your postings. Life has it's ebbs and flows at times. It has been a tough year in many ways. And now that you may be away for awhile is sad to hear. Your thoughts and your series of images in your vast collection of photographs and the way you shared them with us was one of the highlights of Imodeler. Fair winds my friend but don't be a stranger. May God continue to bless you and your family.

  2. Like the French say, “c’est magnifique ça!” Wonderful and admirable piece of work.
Your absence was noted in this forum Rob, so further absence is not a good news, but like Chuck says life makes us twist and turn often. Until a next time Rob

  3. Rob, I sure will miss your superb talents. Your figures and ships are always a "breath of fresh air" and an inspiration for me. I hope all is well.

  4. Thanks Rob! You’re absence was noted and you were missed.

  5. You will be missed. Take care, sir.

  6. Bon Voyage, sir...I shall be joining you at a point in the near future. Adieu.

  7. Rob, I know we share several interests, modeling and otherwise. In many ways I consider you a mentor. Your work is an inspiration and my ‘On This Day’ series could trace it’s DNA through the Friday Briefings and No Comment articles.

If there were common denominators to your canon, they’d be humour, historical intelligence, humanity, integrity, and no small amount of skill. Your presence, as can be seen in these comments, is equally felt and missed.

    • Thanks, David (and everyone else) for the kind comments.

I also managed, finally, to get HMS Victory cased, but as it’s not a new project, a postscript must suffice.

  8. Rob, thanks for all your postings, inspiration and willingness to share. We will miss you, wish you well and hope to see you in the not-too-distant future. Best to you!

  9. Looks amazing!
Thanks for the inspiration and farewell Rob!

  10. You have been an inspiration, as so many have said - please don't be stranger to this forum for too long. Good luck, until next time.

  11. Rob, sorry to see you go, I was always amazed with your work and the scope of your talents and interests. Hopefully this is simply a “pause that refreshes”.

  12. Ditto all above sentiments, and wow - that's a really cool ship. Have never seen one quite like it.

  13. Wow Rob...

I'm sorry to see you go. Understood however, as the thought crosses my mind on occasion too... there's way too much happening lately.

Hopefully you will not be away too long. I have always enjoyed reading your postings.

Take care my friend. Blue skies and fair winds. 🙂
