The Spit-Racer

July 12, 2019 · in Uncategorized · · 22 · 2.1K

I had this half built 1/48th scale stashed in my shelf of doom, until I saw on the internet a guy from Melbourne who scratch built some 1/32 aircraft (Spitfire, Messerschmitt and MiG 15) into some sort of race cars. I liked the idea and decided to do something similar using my old Spitfire.

I've used wheels from and scrapped MiG 25 kit and also from an old Italeri VW166 in 1/35th. The rest of the parts were sourced from my spare parts box.

Painting made using a mix of Tamiya and Gunze acrylics. Weathering using various mediums. Decals came from an ancient RAAF decal sheet and took ages to come out of the paper.

I hope you like the results. It was really fun to build.

Cheers

Paulo

  5. Very neat concept and great execution. If you don't mind sharing, how did you make the heat wrap on the exhaust?

I first remember seeing this idea from the show linked below, about 1/3 down, a Bf109 with a Viper V10.
Needless to say, this idea seems to have caught on, and I'm ok with that!

    • Thanks mate
I don't mind at all sharing the technique. It's very simple though. It's just normal cotton sewing thread. I glued one end with white glue and wrap it around the exhaust the closest I could get it and glued the other end with white glue again. Painted with Tamiya Tan.

  6. Love it ,well done.
