Modeling day with the grandsons
We have our grandkids for a few days while our teacher daughters prepare for school to start next week. Our granddaughter and my wife toddled off to her gymnastics practice, leaving me with two somewhat bored young boys, ages 7 and 9, who needed something to do. A trip to Hobby Lobby came up, so off we went.
These are the 1/24 Airfix Quick Build McLaren P1 kits. There are several cars and airplanes in the series, so there's bound to be something for everyone. About thirty parts molded in colored plastic, so they don't need to be painted. They are assembled like Legos, but sure don't look like them when they're done. The boys had a ball putting them together. Takes just long enough that they stayed interested, but not so long that they got bored, probably about 45 minutes or so.
With the discount coupon from the store, they came out to about 11 bucks each.
So if you have a younger self that might be interested in taking up the hobby, this might be a good way to get them started. I had just as much fun as the boys did...
So...which one opted NOT to add the rear spoiler - the 7 or the 9 year old ? 🙂
Brilliant idea Jamie, we need more kids working with their hands,and using their minds to focus on following instructions rather then playing mindless video games. Maybe they'll catch the bug, either way sounds like a win win for everybody. Glad you had a good time with the boys, those moments are previous.

I agree , great idea! When my son was little I maid a futile attempt of getting him interested, but to no avail I think we built a F/A-18,from Independence Day the movie, a Dodge Ram pickup, and a Batmobile together, he just never got the bug.
