Tamiya 1/35 Tiger 1 Early Production

August 16, 2019 · in Armor · · 14 · 3.2K

I built this a while ago but thought I might show it off here as I'm now in my fourth week of sanding, filling and filing my attempt at the Airfix Vulcan.

Having never built any armour when I was younger and after being not so subtly advised that Innis would quite like a Tiger I started to make plans for the setting. I was fairly sure that the build would be fairly trouble free and, indeed it was. I just fancied a winter scene and something related to the railway.
The only addition to the build were a metal barrel as I flattened one side a bit taking the seam out on the kit one. The tracks were MiniArt Russian Gauge and the Crew were also Miniart Winter Tank crew.
I used Precision Ice and Snow Krycell to simulate the winter scene. The winter camo was distressed using hairspray. I'm fairly chuffed with the way it came out and have include a couple of work in progress shots to show the track.

This was a lot of fun. The wee man fell in love with it and it now sits in a place of honour in his cabinet.

Who knows it may not be the last armour I do.

Tanks for looking

Alistair

  1. Excellent work in every aspect, my friend...nice job!

  2. Beautiful work, Alistair! Ground vehicles have their own different techniques. You have certainly got that (them) going great already. I love the snow! You certainly have the right to be "chuffed" about the way this came out before the snow "fell."

    Bravo!

    • Many thanks for that. i was very impressed by the way the Krycell has settled on the ballast exactly as snow does just before it starts to fill everything in. It might have been a fluke but everything I was trying to do with this worked. Figure painting needs a bit more work but yes I was surprised by the end result

  3. Very nicely done, I like the hairspray weathering on this Tiger so the default German Grey coat shines through. These Tamiya classics fall together like a charm, pure modeling enjoyment. The dio is also fine and makes you wonder who would win the duel: The Steam Engine closing in or the 88 of this beast!? 😀

  4. Love the weathering and the paint work. The figures are super.

  5. Awesome.. just awesome!

  6. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
Nice work on this Tiger tank, the detailing on the figures alone are very much the joy of this work, add to it that tank … and the results can be seen … good work Alistair.
