Airfix 1/48 P-51K Mustang
Hi all. Just finished my Airfix Mustang. I wanted to build a P-51K but I had only the original boxing, a P-51D. Checking through the box I found that nearly all the parts for a “K” variant was in the box except for the Aeroproducts propeller. I was glad I kept the left over Aeroproducts propeller blades from a Hasegawa P-51 kit I built years ago. The propeller blades were easily adapted to the Airfix propeller hub.
I used decals produced by Red Roo Models for a P-51K Mustang flown by 3 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, serving in Italy, late 1944. The aircraft was flown by the CO, Squadron Leader P.M. Nash, DFC and Bar.
The Airfix Kit is great with good cockpit detail and goes together very nicely. I used Tamiya and Mr Hobby acrylic paints.

Nice build. Good to see a Mustang with the southern cross on the tail

Nice work, Michael. You’re right about the Airfix kit being a real honey – it gives the Eduard a run for its money (and wins on “money,” being a bit more than half the price of the Eduard).

Great job. Airfix is really sending out some great kits. This is a great paint scheme on your P-51.

Michael, Well done on this, looks great !
You are also right about the kit. I have not built the kit, however a good friend of mine is. It looks great and is very well engineered !
