Airfix 1/48 Spitfire MkIa
Here is my Airfix Spitfire MkIa.
I built the model straight from the box, only adding Eduard coloured photo etched seat belts
This is a really nice kit. Detail is good and fit is great.
I mixed my own camouflage shades from Tamiya paints.

Welcome to the forum Michael. Well done on the kit. May I ask about your paint mixes as I am always on the look out for new ones. I have three right now, all just slightly different but good for weathering and fading purposes

Thank you George. As for my Tamiya mixes. For Dark green, I started with XF-81 Dark Green 2 and added a little XF-8 to brighten up the green a little. To me XF-81 is slightly too olive looking for early war RAF camouflage. I can’t tell you my paint ratios, I just mixed the two paints together till it looked right to me. Dark earth was mixed by starting with XF-52 Flat earth. To me this colour is too red looking so I added a small amount of XF-3 Yellow to tone down the red look and then I added XF-1 Flat black to darken up the mix. As I said with my Dark green mix I don’t have any ratio of the mix. Sky is XF-21 Sky which I used straight from the bottle. It’s a great colour match for early war Duck egg green. My reference is the colours as seen on restored aircraft currently flying in the UK. Hope this is of interest to you George.

Many thanks. These are the Dk. Earth mixes I have so far, all Tamiya….
Dk. Earth: Flat Earth XF-52, Khaki XF-49 5/1
Dk. Earth: Flat Earth XF-52, Red Brown XF-64 1/1
Dk. Earth: Flat Earth XF-52, Yellow Green XF-4 3/1 (Andy)
The last one is matched to a Hurricane being restored in Canada. I used it on my last build

I really like this! You even managed to make that fakakte “slid back” canopy option look not so godawful – a Serious Accomplishment. You have a really superb result here.
