Airfix 1/72 RAF Rescue Boat

October 10, 2019 · in Ships · · 14 · 2.6K

This kit is as old as me! I remember making it as a child and wanted to make it again, with more care this time.

This kit also features a few firsts for me since I started modelling 'properly' as an adult: first ship, I usually do aviation; first time rigging; and first time actually bothering with people, my aircraft are usually static ground displays.

  1. Your "floaty thing" 🙂 turned out quite well, sir...nice work!

  2. I like this kit. It reminds me of my first boat kit, PT-109.

  3. Looks good! I might suggest nylon thread, stretched sprue or rigging line (EZ or Uschi) to replace the regular thread - it will look more natural and better scale.

  4. Nice work, looks great!

  5. Nice work for all those firsts.

  6. Would look great in a diorama with a Sunderland!

  7. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
    Nice clean build Matt.

  8. Wow ! great job Matt, I have the same kit in my gallery here check it out for comparison .You did really well with this old,old kit, I used fishing line for the rigging on mine, the trick is to attach one end with superglue then when it is fixed attach the other end as straight as you can then, and this is the good bit, heat a knife till it is really hot and hold it near to the fishing line without touching obviously and the line will go tight. have practice before committing to your kit but it is pretty easy and very effective.

    Neil.

    • Good idea. I'll keep it in mind for the next one. Your one is looking good too. I like the options with this kit for colouring, I might try to find another one to make it with the yellow deck.

  9. Great work! Allways nice to see one of the RAF rescue launches build. You did a lovely job also considering the age of the kit. As an RAF fan I still got one in my stash to have a go at.

  10. I love this model, very satisfying to build. I put mine in a harbour dio with some rescued aircrew being transferred to a waiting Airfix Austin Ambulance.
