F-14 Tomcat Naval Strike Air Warfare Center, Hasegawa 1/72

October 9, 2019 · in Aviation · 9 · 2.5K

And finally a work in progress: F-14 Tomcat based at Fallon NAS, assigned to the Naval Strike Air Warfare Center, middle 90ies. As far as I know, 3 Tocat wear ths “Sukhoi” style cammo, slightly different one to the other. Starting model the old, but still good 1/72 Hasegawa. The only extra is an Aires cockpit and aftermarket decals.

I guess Tamiya will dispatch me a present, to compensate the huge amount of money I spend in masking tape.

Wasn’t easy to find the correct FS color. AK has most of them in the catalogue, I order them directly from the producer. Very nice color, same kind of Tamiya and Gunze, Tamiya lacquer Thinner work fine with them. They dry very fast, allowing gentle masking in a minute or so. I spry them directly on the kit, not using any primer, the grip on the plastic is very strong allowing gentle passes with abrasive cloth n° 6000, on each layer of color.
