Battleship Admiral Apraksin trapped, Combrig 1/700
Mayby you know the story... It's January 1900, Russian battleship Admiral Apraksin ran aground near Gogland Island in the Finnish Gulf (Baltic Sea). The icebreaker Jermak took part in salvage operations. In this case wireless communication became indispensable. The nearest city - the small Finnish town of Kotka, had telephone and telegraph connection with St. Petersburg, the capital of the Russian Empire. To communicate the town with the Gogland Island Russian professor Aleksander Popov and his assistant Piotr Rybkin established the radio communication link over a distance of more than 30 miles (distance between the island and the town). The line operated reliably for a few months under severe Russian winter conditions and helped rescuers to coordinate their actions and save battleship Admiral Apraksin
This is an amazing bit of work, Adam. The detail on the ship and diorama are amazing, and making the snow and ice look convincing is brilliant. Great job.
Amazing diorama, the whole scene is replicated to perfection, all its missing is the icebreaker at the background, so it must still be heading this way π
Thanks! The diorama is too small to catch the icebreaker. The oryginal photo might be deceiving - the distance between both ships is quite big...
