Okay, so I finally finished the 1/350 Hobbies . This kit really was a lot of fun to build. lighting it really made it stand out. I used teeny tiny , itsy bitsy little LEDs in side the crew compartmant at the top and slighly larger ones at the base of the tanks. Paint was all Miision Models. The base was created using railroad scenery foam for the very bottom to which I glued more rigid foam that was layered. I carved out rough contours using my Benchmade knife, then painted on acrylic gel medium with pumice. I waited a couple of days for it to dry, then applied plaster of Paris. I carved ridges and cracks using several orthopedic instruments and painted it with Mission Models Light Gull gray and weathered it with several Mig washes. This is my first diorama and I'm pretty pleased with the way the surface turned out. I might make another one for my Apollo CSM. I'll have more on this on my website http://www.georgesmodels.com soon

  1. Nice!
Almost like a scene from out of a George Pal movie.

  2. Well done George. I can hear Jules Bergman telling us about the technology involved. In glorious Black & White TV. Ah the bad old days

  3. Absolutely fabulous work!

  4. I have been following this build and am suitably impressed with the finished product. Well done. It looks really good against against the black background.

  5. This is really cool, George. The base really adds a lot to the look of the model. In addition to plastic models, I also have a train layout, and sometimes I am amazed at how many techniques I use for my trains apply equally as well to my other modeling. Great job.

  6. Great looking lander. The first photo is almost looking like the real thing. By the way, what is the story behind this, is it a proposal for a real lander, totally sci-fi or what?

  7. Wonderful!

The effect with the lighting gives it a massive appearance and sure adds drama to the scene - it looks like it's ready to take off any second.

  8. Thank you all. I appreciate the kind words.

  9. Lander and Moon scape both are great!

  10. I love this, both the lander and the moonscape- those craters look amazing. Have you thought about marketing your lighting kit for other builders of this model? I'd buy one...

  11. Great moonscape to bring this project home!
