Old’s Aerotech Car

November 28, 2019 · in Automotive · 3 · 1.7K

This was my 2nd car model after I made my pink Caddy. I don't have any "in-progress" building images and I do not recall who's silver looking paint I used as I built it in the early 1990. As mentioned in other car stories, the "value price" was for special insurance for my models that grew to 288 when I quit in 2016.

I lucked out with one photo as it shows some of the car's inside. I must have done a good job as you can see that I won several awards on the car.

  1. Interesting object. Looks really fine.
Was the original just a design study or does a prototype exist?
Just interested: How did you calculate the value?
    e.g.: hours of workingtime x n$/h + ?extra$ for the Awards ?

    • Hi Hans:
I have no idea if a real pro-type car is still around as I never investigated it.
The "value" was calculate by guess work as to hours of labor, cost of kit and expendable materials like paint, cutting knife blades etc. Then on lots of models I just used the same value price. On customer models I kept an accurate record of my hours. One was 2,143, while another one was over 3,000 hours and one was only ,1500 hours. It takes a long time to scratch-build accurate parts. My 301 awards were paid for by the clubs that put on their contest.

When I was contest director from 1987 to 2003 our club had 3 awards for each of the 52 categories at a cost of $26.00 for the 3 awards, of 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Then we had other special awards like Best Ship, Best Car, etc.
