Scribing Tools
Again, someone ask me about my scribing tools! I bought the 3 long handle dental pick's as they call them here in America in the mid 1980's, including what is called a "Pin-Vise." I was told by a fellow modeler to put a hard case straight pin in my Pin-Vise.
As I have said before, it's "experimental" time and I learned how to scribe in some very nice panel lines. I also used the point of the needle to push into the kit plastic which represents rivets.
Long ago I built a 1/48 scale helicopter for a client and put all 700 rivets back into the plastic. Have fun...RJW
I'm going to try a machine tool shop to see if they have a machinist's scribe. I've tried dental tools but the only ones I can find are cheap ones from India that get dull quickly. Not sure where to get good ones. Any ideas?
I got my scribing tool's at the annual craft's show in San Jose, CA about 1985 along with two types of sharping tools for all sorts of cutlery. My one stone is 6" x 1" x 1/4" thick. One side of it is brown and the other side is white. They are kinda like1200 grit on one side and maybe 2000 grit on the white side. You just slide the curved steel point down the brown side a couple times then do the same on the white side. Most important is...I barely touch the point of the scribe on the white side, so you see a tiny micro-dot that is flat. You are now ready to scribe. I never took a photo of my flat stone with my 2 scribing tools. The stone is made out of the same material that they used on our space shuttle's nose. When the shuttle comes back to earth, the heat does not burn through this man made material. Go to any knife shop/gun store/Walmart and/or on the net and you should find the sharping stone.
