Thank you Louis Gardener!

December 22, 2019 · in Aviation · · 8 · 1.6K

Another Christmas gift from another great person. I really dont know how to articulate my thanks for these awesome gifts. Louis included a and a for me to build, both being in 1/48th scale. I've built before, but this other company will be a first. I'm excited to build them. And Louis requested a build log for these planes, which I am MORE than happy to supply. Thank you again! Merry Christmas to you all.

  1. Merry Christmas Jordyn, looks like you made Santa's list in a big way this year! You know there are 3 days left. Hmmm.

  2. Hello Jordyn,
and Merry Christmas to you and your family. I am very happy to hear that these gifts arrived before Christmas. They couldn't have gone out to a more deserving person. It also pleases me to hear that you will be doing a build journal for these kits.

Part of the fun of building models for me is learning the history behind each one. Try to learn as much as you can about the people who built them, flew them, and fixed them... and you will learn even more about the aircraft in the process.

However the main reason why most of us build models is to have fun... Never forget that, and you will be rewarded with a wonderful lifelong hobby.

My very first model kit was a 1/32 scale Revell P-40E "Flying Tiger" model. Here's a photo of the box art of my first plastic model ever... I was 7 or 8 years old at the time. And boy what a mess I made of it !

But I had fun while I was building it. My model kept falling apart, and I couldn't figure out why...
Turns out I was using "Balsa Wood Glue". The old orange Ambroid stuff... It would dry, but it didn't melt the plastic together, so it would fall apart. My Dad had never built a plastic model before, but he did build a lot of free flight balsa wood planes when he was a kid... so he made a mistake and bought me the wrong kind of glue... it happens. Once I got proper glue for plastic models, I built my first model again, for the second time...

Don't get too worried about making mistakes or something not being just exactly perfect. We all do this, some more than others, that's all.

Then the F4U Corsair happens to be my very favorite airplane. This is why I chose these two model kits to send out to you as a gift...

I hope you enjoy building them as much as I have over the years.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, and may God bless you all.

  3. My very first kit was the 1/25th scale MPC Monkee Mobile, a custom built Pontiac GTO convertible for a TV show. Got this for my 8th birthday, molded in red. I built it on a whim. didn't realize there were steps in the instruction sheet. Like most cars, you build the engine first, then the frame and suspension. Then the body components. Well let say the engine was built last after I had the rest of the car built. I was scratching my head in how come the engine didn't fit, lol.

  4. The gift that keeps on giving and giving... Enjoy, Jordyn!
