1/48 Scale P-47D Thunderbolt "SWEET MUSIC."

January 13, 2020 · in Aviation · · 4 · 1.6K

Back in 2007 I found a photo of this P-47D and I bought a kit of it. The decals came from "AeroMaster Decals." When we moved from Colorado in 2016 to a town near the Los Angeles area of California, the model was placed in one of my 90 plastic boxes that has covers on them. It's still in that box today in 2020.
The model is "out-of-the-box" and the "Titanium Silver paint is by . Enjoy RJW!

  1. These are some very nice P-47's Rodney... After looking at how nice yours are, I'm getting the itch to build up a 1/48 Tamiya P-47D as flown by Maj. Eagleston...(the one with the yellow nose and a skull and cross bones on the cowling). Hun Hunter XVI sounds good too...

I especially like what you did with the cockpit and how you added the fin fillet. I had the old "Hawk' razor back kit that I built in the 70's. Mine was chrome plated and re boxed by Testor's. Ahhhhh sweet memories.

Very nice work as usual !

  3. Hi Louis & Haslam:

I "jumped-the-gun" upon posting this story as I forgot to post the part about "Alclad's" new paint back in 2007.

The build was a "test" to see if the paint was any good as it cost USD$10.00 per one ounce bottle plus postage and sales tax. Tamiya was selling for two bucks per their 3/4 ounce bottle.

Alclad's instructions said that you "MUST" use their black paint "FIRST" then spray on the aluminum color, so this ... "old-experimental Rodney" made a test.

The photo's enclosed shows that you do not need to paint on any black paint, which means that any company can tell you anything to convince you to buy their product!

I took the enclosed sample to the next IPMS/USA show and showed it to the guy that was at "ALCLAD'S" sales table in one of the vendor's room. He came across like he had no idea why the company said that, as he was just an employee.

    RJW...
