Capt. Freddie Ohr’s P-51D Mustang.
This one’s been a long time coming. The AeroMaster decals must be 20 years old at least & they’ve been on my ‘must do’ list for as long. The kit is the Airfix 1/48th. first variant, which I have done once before & I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. There are several colour photos of this aircraft in various references & they all show a pretty clean ‘plane; possibly because the pilot was C.O of the unit? With this build I tried to portray the wings in a puttied/lacquered finish, which turned out to be quite hard to do to my satisfaction. I used Vallejo & AK metallics with a touch of medium sea grey mixed in for the wing surfaces to represent the lacquered finish. The yellow is Model Master chrome yellow. The fuselage was finished with a coat of Future & the wings with my home brew eggshell clear. I have added hydraulic lines, but otherwise it is out of the box.
