The Avro Lancaster

History
The history deserves some reading and the internet is full of articles on that. Even the ever present Wikipedia has a nice one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Lancaster
Now preserved in the Museum at RAF Hendon, PO-S/R5868 or S for Sugar as it became known, is probably the most famous of the Lancasters. She ended the war with an impressive 125 mission tally.

THE KIT & BUILD NOTES:
I built this kit to a friend, which had it in his stach for long, being the one. It's a nice kit, with few issues, although no interior or much detail, so my build had space to some scratch. The fit is sometime good, other…

BUILDING
As said before, there was almost no interior, so I scratched some. In fact, at the end, it's not that visible.
The wing was also cut to improve the ailerons and flaps, which I made from styrene.

To give the build more interest, I opted to build two Merlin engines, firewalls and supports.

I also added some riveting, as one might see closely.

PAINTING
As usual, I used Mr. Hobby Color. For the underside black I used Tyre-black with some white to tone it down a bit and some grey pre-shading and post-shading and oils to achieve some different tones.
The camo followed the same way.

According to some photos from the real aircraft, the engines made some heavy smoke, due to lead, leaving a thick trail on the wings, which I tried to replicate.

PO-S for Sugar now and then

It was a fun build, hope you like.

Cheers,
Manuel

  4. that is a real beauty! Love the paint work especially. Well done - and beautifully photographed as well.

  5. That is a masterpiece of modelling. As if filling those annoying sinkmarks into the cockpit wasn’t enough, you gave the office the luxury treatment it deserves. Lovely engine details and weathering. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Very well done. That's way more detail than my fat fingers could accomplish in 72 scale.
