C-97 "ANGEL of DELIVERANCE."

February 9, 2020 · in Aviation · · 6 · 1.7K

made a very nice 1/144th scale "C-97 STRATOFREIGHTER" model, which had next to no flashing on any of the kit parts.

It's an O.O.B. model and all I added to it was some small black "b-b's" in the nose, however when I set it on all 3 gears, the tail fell down on my table, which ment "more weight" was needed. I poured in some bigger brass looking b-b's and then the model came down on its' nose.

The model was all glued together and I applied some black paint and sanded it off which showed me all my flaws and missing panel lines. It was time to fix all these items and get ready to put on the finishing colors. As usual, I used different color's of paints then apple the kit decals.

The 3M yellow masking tape came from the local Walmart store in Cortez, Colorado. I have been using this type of "painter's-tape" for a couple of decades. The rolls are big with about 60 yards/54.8M long x 0.94" wide. The cost was around 6 bucks American money.
(0.94" is almost 1"/25mm wide). You can cut it into very narrow strips of one to two "mm" wide. The tape comes in different colors. Another company by the name of "DUCK" makes a similar tape and is good as 3M's tape with about the same cost. You are wasting your $$$ on Tamiya's tape...I know as I have been there!

I inspected the finished model and since I built it 7 years ago I can't recall now if I had to make any last minute repairs.

I have another big air freight model coming.

  1. Looks great, Rodney! Looks like the B-29 got as much use in peacetime as it did in war! That's a really good looking paint scheme, too.

  2. Very unusual, and beautifully executed, like it a lot.

I like to do challenging things and this is one of them. Again, many thanks ''U"s! Rodney.

  4. Great work, as usual, Mr. Williams
