Focke Wulf Fw 190 V-1 Prototype

February 17, 2020 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.6K

This is the kit which comprises of resin main parts, metal landing gear legs and tail wheel, 2 well molded very clear vac canopies and decals. The kit was built OOB and painted using Vallejo Metal Colors. The kit is a straight forward assembly and I used 2 part epoxy as an adhesive for the main assembly, cyano for the smaller parts. The kit decals are well done and very thin but they have a tendency to curl. I suggest spraying a thin coat of Future over the sheet to help mitigate this. Also I'd advise against using any setting solutions as they're not needed. I used plain water with a brush lightly dipped in dish washing liquid to wet the decal placement area. The dish liquid stops the waters surface tension and provides a slippery finish to help with decal positioning. The clear decal film is virtually invisible when dry. This could be a good candidate for a first resin kit to those that haven't tried one.

  1. Great job Dale. I've never seen this kit built before. I'm a big fan of Vallejo Metals and as long as one is careful they are just as sturdy as other acrylics

  2. That’s a very nicely done 190. Pretty is not a superlative often aimed at a Würger, but in this case, it’s well deserved.

    ‘Liked’ - a lot.

  3. Always seen these 190 prototypes depicted in the 70/71 splinter camo, never in a NMF. Nice, but still the son of a lesser god when compared with the production series. I like the cockpit a lot. Thanks for sharing Dale!

  4. Beautifully done!

  5. Great result, Dale. The problems you pointed out ended up preventing my coming to as successful a conclusion with my kit as you did with yours. Bravo!

  6. Thanks to all for the nice comments!

  7. Wow - what a front end that thing has! Don't think I've ever seen the prototype, and you did a marvelous job with it.

    • Yes it is huge. The ducted spinner was supposed to streamline the aircraft while air racing through the small duct was to cool the engine. It didn't work, the engine overheated and the pilot experienced very high cockpit temperatures.

  8. Nicely done Dale, really looks good, especially in NMF.
