Hasegawa 1:48 CF-104D

March 16, 2020 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.5K

CF-104D, Lockheed model 583-04-15, Lockheed construction number 583A-5303, RCAF serial number 12633, Mk.1 (Dual Training Aircraft), built by Lockheed. Taken on service March 23, 1962; it served the 448 Test Squadron "Central Experimental and Proving Establishment" (CEPE) at Cold Lake for many years; withdrawn from use May 23, 1973. Overall a good fitting kit including the inserts. The kit has a lot of extra parts as the single seat option is included. The speed brakes require a little re-work as they are meant to be posed open. I could find no photos of a -104 at rest with them open so I closed them. Kit decals were used but they didn't quite settle into the panel lines no matter what solutions I used. As luck would have it, my bottle of Walther's Solvaset showed up three days later. For paints I used Vallejo Metallics over X-1 Gloss Black. The Stabilizers were painted Tamiya X-7 Gloss Red. The top of the wings was painted Tamiya X-2 Gloss White. The bottoms were painted Tamiya XF-12 IJN Grey as recommended by this site...http://hedgehoghollow.com/buzz/Colour_Guide/aircraft_clr.html The tip tanks were painted in an RCAF colour called "Orange (Fluorescent) on two seaters only. I mixed up a hand full of X-7 Gloss Red, X-6 Gloss Orange and X-8 Lemon Yellow
