It's so cute, it just had to be built

March 15, 2020 · in Uncategorized · · 3 · 1.1K

I bought this kit at the show in Madison last weekend and I finished it today. It is such a unique aircraft that saw service throughout the war. In the hands of a skilled pilot, and under the right conditions, this STOL aircraft could take off and land within twice its own length. It is just so cute. The only problem I had with the kit was with the decals. They just would not lay down or lay still once down. Ended up losing one sides worth of the smaller squadron numbers on the fuselage. But still a fun build.

  1. Very nice build! I've had problems with Academy decals from their P-40N/M kit.

  2. Very good job David. I also had problems with Academy decals, especially the older ones. What I did was to apply a drop of future on the surface the decal was supposed to go, then apply the decal and very carefully position it. The liquid future gave the decals some adhesion, and at the same time a "permission" to move so that they could be positioned. Otherwise they tended to curl just by thinking of them!
    Nice project.
    All the best!

  3. Nice - and I have also never had good luck with Academy decals - I think I've always just replaced them.
