Airfix 1/72nd Buccaneer S.2 801 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Victorious

April 5, 2020 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.1K

This my second completed S.2 , this time completed with wings unfolded. These new Airfix kits are a real pleasure to construct and long may that continue.

This time I have opted for the grey over white scheme which was an earlier marking scheme for Fleet Air Arm Buccaneer S.2's.

XN977 was one of the first batch of Buccaneer S.2's delivered to the Fleet Air Arm joining 700B Squadron at RNAS Lossiemouth in March 1965. She then went on to serve with 801 Squadron.

This aircraft crashed on landing on 8 March 1982 whilst serving with 15 Squadron RAF.

  1. An excellent model, Mark. I love the contrast of grey over white!
    All the best!

  2. Terrific job on this , I love the Buccaneer . My old fella served on the Victorious so may have seen this old girl in action .C'mon Airfix bring it out in 1/48 !
    N.

    • Airfix could bring out the new mold 1/48, two weeks after I will have finished my old one I've got in my stash... (it's the modeler's Murphy-ish law!). So I should start it right away!
All the best and happy modeling, my Friends!

  3. Another winner, Mark!

  4. very sheik together

  5. A real beauty! I built the old Airfix Buccaneer yarns ago, your giving some inspiration here.

  6. Another good looking Buccaneer, nice together Mark.

  7. What a nice build!
    Love that color scheme.
    Congratulations

  8. Gotta love that 2-tone scheme. Though my favorite is the Op Granby Desert Pink scheme, this is right behind it!

  9. Very nice model... interesting looking aircraft .

  10. How did you manage the dark blue code letters underwng and yellow stripe above wing?
Excellent model. Hope mine with recce pod, comes out as nice.

  11. They are all just decal work. The provided Airfix decals are superb and include the yellow stripes. I used aftermarket decals for my 801 Squadron Buccaneer but the kit provided ones show exactly where to cut should you fold the wings.
Good luck with yours and enjoy it as this kit and the larger 1/48th version are truely great kits.
