Airfix 1/72nd Buccaneer S.2 809 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Ark Royal

April 1, 2020 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2K

This is the new mould S.2 completed as XV154 whilst she was allocated to 809 Naval Air Squadron aboard HMS Ark Royal.
XV154 was issued to the during 1966 and was originally issued to 800 Naval Air Squadron, which was attached to HMS Eagle's Air Wing. She was used in the Operations to bomb the stricken Torrey Canyon tanker though her bombs 'hung up' and it took some while to jettison the unco-operative weapons.
In November 1969 XV154 was allocated to 809 Naval Air Squadron attached to HMS Ark Royal's Air Wing. She stayed here until transfer to the RAF in October 1973.

I have modelled her nearly all folded up as she would normally be whilst aboard. Sadly Airfix do not provide a nose folding option, though likely this would probably be fairly straight forward.

A really nice kit, going together pretty well. I so enjoyed it that I have already purchased a further example and will finish the next one as all unfolded.

  1. Gorgeous model, Mark, as it is her story also. Nice to learn the -small or big - stories each aircraft carries.
All the best, and stay safe, my friend!

  2. Beautifully done! I remember seeing RN Buccaneers and Phantoms at NAS Oceana VA. in 1975.

  3. Very nice. I like your plan for folded and unfolded versions. I'm hoping to do one myself.
