F-4B Phantom, VF-31,1964/67, 1/72 Acc/Min, Monogram conversion.
The Phantom bug possessed me again. I found an old microscale Phantom sheet 72-66 that looked well preserved, but it wasn't easy to find a reasonably priced [for me] "B" bird. I could have just use a C/D and forget the that the B has the thin wing and main mounts. I ended up converting a bagged kit of Accurate Miniature's Monograms 1/72 mold of the F-4C/D,J. it was missing decals and canopy of which I had a spare. So it was cheap, Yeah! What I did was sand the top and bottom hump of the wing, flattened out the speed brakes and made flat main landing gear doors. The kit also includes parts for the correct rear Navy cockpit. I chose the markings of VF-31 which flew the B between 64/67. One more to add to my post war VF-31 Felix lineage collection.
Excellent! Turned out great! I did a similar conversion years ago to the Monogram 1/48 J, turned out pretty good. I decided to live with the cockpit and exhaust differences.
It's an F-4, it's perfectly researched and beautifully built! Congratulations, my friend!

I have no idea how you can do 1/72 scale, I struggle with 1/48! Great job!
Ah - one can never tire of seeing more Phantoms! Lovely Navy bird you did there (I have GOT to get to one of the Navy birds in my collection soon...).
It's because of you and your world of Phantoms that I'm doing more Phantoms, I've got two more in the stash, might do a USAF bird.@gkittinger
