1/35 Takom G6 Rhino 155mm SPH

April 12, 2020 · in Armor · · 5 · 2.4K

Now completed - my G6 ''

I have done it in to overall brown used by the SA Army during the bush war and up to 1994. It is shown with its spades/feet down and up as these are working.

Paints used for main colour - Vallejo 70.921 'English Uniform Brown' (air brushed),

Armoured windows done using Alclad II ALC408 'Armoured Glass Tint' (air brushed 3 thin coats) and

the Air Con unit on the left rear of the turret was done using Tamiya XF-72 'JGSDF Brown' (brush painted).

The antenna is made from a piece of guitar wire cut to the approx length.

Still to be done is a minor amount of weathering on the body & tyres, due to the fact that as far as I am aware they are kept in a fairly clean condition. I could stand to be corrected and any photos of it in the SADF Brown will be greatly appreciated.

I have included 2 photos showing size comparison to the Danish Leopard II MBT.

  1. Outstanding work Phillip.

  2. Nicely done! A very large machine.

  3. Very nice indeed, I have seen one of these in action when I did my National Service in the SA army.

    • Marc Barris. I did my NS in Rhodesia in 1979 and then again in SA in 1988 hence the overall brown scheme.
I saw the first Rooikat when I was at the SADF HQ in Pretoria and that was in overall brown at that time, so might do that at some time.
Other than these SA vehicles I have been busy with the Olifant Mk2 as well as modified Rhodesian mine protected Land Rovers.

  4. Great work, I've been trying to get my hands on this kit but it's hard to come by
