Revell 1/48 Lockheed PV-1 Ventura
My Revell Ventura model has been laying around unfinished for 9 years. I can’t remember why I stopped building it. I guess I bought something new and just had to build it instead. I have been at home during the lock down and I decided to finally finish my Ventura. I’m glad I did! It’s a very good model! It goes together very nicely with no trouble at all. I’m very happy with the results.
I finished my Ventura as a 13 “City of Darwin” Squadron RAAF.
I used Extradecal 48097 which included 13 Squadron markings. I replaced the incorrect propeller blades with resin ones and I also replaced the very narrow and too long .50cal machine gun barrels in the turret with resin. By the way, the back to front tail flashes are correct. They were painted incorrectly on the actual aircraft.
A squadron aircrew member was Flight Lieutenant Gough Whitlam who was a navigator/bomb aimer. In 1972 he was elected the Prime Minister of Australia.

Great build. Glad you finished it. The Ventura is a handsome aircraft, especially in those colors. Nice subtle weathering too.

The only drawback to this kit is the lack of detail in the rear compartment. I just wanted a bit more detail painting to do, nevermind that you won’t see it. Still fun to do. (Although there could be an open door on the side to show a bit off.) It really does build up nice ‘n easy though and I wish they’d follow it up with a Harpoon! Great Aussie PV-1Michael!

That’s a excellently built model of an imposing plane, Michael. I love the camo/markings.
All the best!

Yeah, it’s a nice kit. You’ve done well with it.
I’m also looking at Shelf of Doom projects now. In almost all cases, it’s “what the — was i thinking?” They’re all nice and I cannot remember why I lost the mojo on any of them.

Thanks Tom! The Ventura was the last of my shelf of Doom kits. I an happy she’s done now.

Well done Michael, actually saw one fly at an air show marking the 50th Anniversary of the end of WWII. It’s a big plane, glad you finished her.

That’s a great looking plane, and it’s great see one now; I’m about to crack into my own version. Nice to see the effect of those big paddle blades; I might have to try to find some. Thanks for the inspiration, and great result!

Nice job, I think it really is a pretty plane. It looks like it would be fun build. Will have to start looking into trade to get one. I like your paint work. I love those blue schemes.

Nice build Michael! Good to see those American airframes in unusual liveries. Great job on the engines! Very convincing!

It really is a fun and enjoyable kit and you did a great job with it. Paint job is just right!

Thanks Eric for your kind words. I had a look at your RAF Ventura and it looks great! I will have to get that kit. There is a European based RAAF Ventura option in the decal sheet sheet I used in this build.
