Tamiya 1/35 JGSDF Type 16 Tank Destroyer
Lockdown build number 2 (well number 1 is continuing the build of the Tamiya 1/35 Matilda) is this modern JGSDF Type 16 (my first modern armour). Being build out of the box with a what-if camouflage scheme – home made digital scheme to be painted tri-tone grey (possibly adding brown/stone).

This is an interesting vehicle. I recently read an article about it and the emerging mobile island defense doctrine that birthed it. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing it done.

Is Pic#2 one of those 3D pics that if you squint your eyes and stare at the center the image pops out?

ha yes… thats the mask template I will use for the digital scheme….

Great choice for your next build, Robert and solid progress so far. The vehicle looks like a cross between the B1 Centauro and the South African Rooikat. That what-if digital camo sounds like a real painting challenge (tiny squares as in Chinese digital camouflage?). Will you airbrush that? It should be very impressive and more than I could do.

Thank Colin, yes the digital camouflage is small (3mm) squares. I have printed the pattern on to vinyl masks and tested on an old kit. Airbrushing will be AK interactive colours which should flow nicely (I hope)

Nice progress, Robert! Cannot wait to see your painting technique implemented.
All the best!

This is the progress. Digital scheme didn’t go down too badly and some touch up gets me to this. Need to add the smaller/fiddly parts then choose a marking scheme and a little bit of weathering
