Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV: Such a Great Kit

April 16, 2020 · in Armor · · 9 · 1.6K

Hi folks: this is my latest...done today. I've worked on it steadily for a few weeks now, trying to avoid the plague. It's strictly an out of the box effort. This model is yet another wonderfully designed kit, with a modest parts count, nicely detailed, that simply falls together; just a total pleasure to build. I took the easy route and buttoned it up; though a nice pair of figures and scissor periscope were included. I experimented with different paints. My airbrushing disappointed, as I simply could not get a good tight camo pattern. Next kit, I'll either go back to Tamiya paints or explore the Mission Model line of paints. I tried earth and rust pigments for the first time, and liked the results, though with greater patience and study, one could do so much more. Never satisfied of course, I may yet go in with some temporary spacers plus a dab of superglue, and try to impose a little bit of sag into the tracks' top run, as well as running some graphite here and there, along the edged surfaces, to show some wear. As always, coulda' woulda' regrets where just a few more hours or a little more patience would have improved it. Thanks for looking.

  4. Bert, Looks very nice. I'm an airplane guy but I enjoy these armor builds. Especially when they are well done like this !

  5. Lovely work, Bert! Airbrushing is very good.
About fine airbrushing: try the following (everything with a MAYBE factor):
    -lower pressures,
    -fine airbrush settings -setups
    -bit more thinned paint
    -get closer to the model
I can see you use Tamiya paints, which are fine, but if you so wish, you can experiment with some other good brands, to find you own balancing point.
All the best, my friend. I love your work!

  6. Thank you for your kind comment.
