Tamiya Yamaha YZF-R1M

April 13, 2020 · in Automotive · · 7 · 1.8K

Hi All, this is the Yamaha YZF-R1M. This is a great kit. I added the detail up set which contains turned metal front forks, rear suspension spring and other details for the forks. I also used the Studio 27 carbon fibre decals. These fit without any trimming but are absolute hell to make conform to the curved surfaces and require copious quantities of Tamiya X20-A acrylic thinner, patience and lots of swearing to achieve the desired result. This was to be short diversion from aeroplanes but we all know how that goes. I am quite happy with the finished model. Enjoy.

  1. What a fantastic job Haslam! I thought it was a photo of the real one!
    All the best!

  2. VERY nice! Yes, Studio 27 carbon decals are diabolical but worth the effort.

  3. Flawless finish, Haslam. I have never built a motorcycle kit but I am amazed by the realism of what you've done with this one. Looks like you could jump right on and ride it away. Your photographic backdrop looks great too, much like a showroom for the real thing. Great work.

  4. Looks real! Great work.

  5. Thanks for all the compliments gents.

  6. Nice bike mate! Some cool touches, you can tell you put the effort in.
The heat staining on the exhaust is a nice touch, and it takes time to drill out those brake discs!
I built this kit myself a while back, it's fantastic!
I've never had a problem with the carbon fibre decals. I use micro set and micro sol solutions and they seem to conform okay.
