1/48 Tamiya AR-196A Arado Seaplane

May 22, 2020 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.5K

This is the Arado AR-196A German seaplane. It is a re-box of the Italeri kit. I did the scheme as one of the aircraft that was used on the Bismarck battleship. The Arado was a shipboard reconnaissance low-wing monoplane aircraft built by the German firm of Arado starting in 1936. To add details I used the Eduard detail set. You can see all the photos and details of this build in my build log section: https://davidsscalemodels.com/build-log/1-48-arado-ar-196a/

  1. Nice and clean build, I like the rigging and the smal details added. Good job!

  2. Very nice build, David! All that remains is for you to build the accompanying Bismarck in the same scale for refrence! Liked!

  3. Great job, David! Love the work you did with the Eduard detail set too.
    all the best!

  4. Fantastic build David. You did a great job.
Still one of the planes that I want to build.
Will for sure read your build log.

  5. Looks great! I'm thinking of doing one in 1/72.

I really like that plane and yours looks good. How was the kit too build? I have started more than one but have never finished an ESCI Italeri kit. Just have not enjoyed the kit even if I was interested in the subject matter. I would really like to build that one and put it in water, but not sure I would based on past experience.

  7. A fine piece of work David. I especially like the fit of the sliding canopies, the rigging & internal detail. I think I'll start looking for this one. Thanks for the inspiration.

  8. Well done - lots of nice detail visible in the cockpit! Looks great!
