1/72 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4

May 16, 2020 · in Aviation · · 9 · 2K

Picked this up at the local toyshop. One half of the Dogfight Doubles (the other being the Spitfire Mk I that I am currently working on). Pretty fun kit. Only a couple of small crises during the build - temporarily lost a tail-plane strut and I used general purpose masking tape when I did the top of the fuselage and it left a sticky residual (which luckily came off with eucalyptus oil and didn't damage the paint job).

I had never tried to do a mottling effect before. I used a small chunk of sponge to apply and I think it came out reasonably well.

Paints were all Humbrol enamel and brush applied.

A yellow-nosed 109 is a vital part of any collection!

  6. Interestingly enough, the mottle on the 1:1 original was most likely applied with sponges too!

    Nice work on this.

  7. Hard to see in the low light, but from what I can make out it looks great! The mottling came out nice.
