Airfix 1/48 Hawker Hurricane Mk1

May 12, 2020 · in Aviation · · 23 · 2.4K

Model depicts an aircraft flown by the Finnish Air Force 2/Lentoliavue 26, Kilpasilta airfield, April 1943. The only mods necessary to convert to a Finnish are a taller scratch aerial mast and a small first aid hatch added on the mid lower port fuselage. Paints are all from the Lifecolor range set which was done in conjunction with the Finnish Air Force Museum which i think speaks well for their color accuracy. Only aftermarket used was Finemolds seat belts and a Yahu control panel. Both items are excellent.

  1. Beauty. How do you find the Finemolds belts, Dale? I see they are offering them in their soon to be released 1:48 Japanese captured B-339 Buffalo

  2. I could tell that this was one of yours right away, simply by looking at the feature photo. You really do some nice work Dale. @dtravis

You typically don't see too many Hurricanes painted in Finnish markings. It's almost like seeing a Soviet Spitfire... Rare, but they had them.

These new tool 1/48 Airfix Hurricanes are a great little kit. I had a lot of fun building mine.

  3. That's a fantastic build, a flawelessly executed camo and spot-on weathering, Dale! I love planes in Finnish markings and watching your Hurricane was a joy.

  8. Nice work as usual Dale. The Hurri looks good in that scheme.

Seems like every other source I read can't decide it those 12 airplanes had rag wings or metal wings. Seen (and done) both myself.

  9. Nice looking Hurricane, looks great in this scheme.

  10. Great Work Dale!
