Airfix 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 - 803 Naval Air Squadron - Royal Canadian Navy - HMCS Warrior - 1948

May 13, 2020 · in Aviation · 16 · 2.3K

This is a fun kit - easy to assemble with good fit. The panel lines are really sharp but the interior details are sparse and kind of soft. Ailerons, rudder and elevators are separate pieces which is nice. The decals are excellent - perfect register, thin and conform very well. I chose the Royal Canadian Navy version. Bombs, rockets and fuel tanks, all with decals, are included but I didn’t use any of them - good spares though.

  1. Nice job, Richard. That is a nice kit to build. I hope to do another someday down the road. I ended up using the Barracuda cowl set and Fundekals on mine.

  2. Thanks, I purchased Belcher Bits decals which arrived at light speed but I was ready to paint the day before they arrived so I ended up using the kit decals. So, then, I was compelled to buy the Trumpeter Firefly so I could use the Belcher sheet - funny how the mind of a modeler works 🙂

    • Not to be a downer, but you should have bought the Special Hobby Firefly. I made the mistake of getting the Trumpy kit, and the best you can say is it is "Firefly-ish." The SH kit is good, with all the right ordnance, and more importantly the right shape, the correct elevators (how they botched that is a real head-scratcher), and any number of other things. The kit is definitely a product of the "D" team.

  3. Some strong work on what will be another Airfix classic. I really like the paint finish and the subtle use of weathering is spot on. Would it be possible to post some more pictures Richard?
When you've got it flaunt it. I really like to learn from other peoples work and dry to take the time to study what others have done to make a model stand out.

To thumbs up. Looking forward to seeing more of
    your builds Richard.

  4. Nice work, Richard.

  5. That's an excellent model, Richard. I love the paintjob and the weathering is perfect. I have built the old Hobbycraft kit, and I can see the Airfix is light years ahead.
    All the best!

  6. That is one sweet looking Sea Fury.

  7. Very well done. The paint and weathering is really nice.

  8. Nicely done Richard and I agree with Stephen it would be nice to see more pics of this excellent model.

  9. Good looking build!

  10. Great work. The good news on the cockpit is it's black. So all the detail you want to see you couldn't see anyway. You're right it's a superb kit.

  11. This is a great build! Nice color scheme.

  12. Richard, She's a beauty, of coarse I admit I really like the look of Sea Furys, especially when they are as Well done as this is.

  13. Hello Richard,
Excellent construction/ painting of this thorough breed "Race Horse".
Back to a long forgotten past with Canadian carrier aviation.
