Skyraider R3350-Duplex Cyclone Engine, jigsaw puzzle from Trumpeter!

June 24, 2020 · in Uncategorized · · 11 · 1.4K

So, I hope the rest of the instructions are better than the engine instructions! Some trial and error and leaving out a part that can't be seen that interfered with the whole works and I got her together. Thankfully there are lots of pictures on the web of Duplex Cyclone engines. I used fine solder for the ignition wires, added a few scratchbuilt bits for them to fit into. I did not spend too much time detailing as even with the cowl flaps and the engine flaps open, the cowling is tight and not too much will be seen. I did deepen the exhaust openings with a drill. On to the cockpit!

  1. Now that's attention to detail! That beer looks great.

  2. Rob, that is awesome work my friend! Can't wait to watch the rest of the show!

  3. Thanks guys, the rest of the build should be more straight forward. For those building this kit, just be warned that some parts are mis identified in the engine instructions. Not too hard to sort out as they at least all only fit one way, so there's that. Now I just hope the Air Force Spad driver I bought isn't going to be upset when I change his uniform and turn him into a Naval Aviator!

  4. So much details, Rob. Although you said you didn spent to much on detailing.
You deserved the beer for sure.

  5. Lovely little piece of art Rob 🙂

  6. Got some good advice, on Facebook to leave the engine assembly off until after painting. I often do this anyway, but thinking of how it will mount and then masking...yah for sure going to this time!

  7. Fantastic looks, Rob!
Would love this beer now, as it is nice and hot here in Greece; I'm sure you enjoyed it!
On to your Naval Aviator, waiting eagerly to see him done!

  8. Glad to see that there is another radial engine tragic out there. Very nicely done.

  9. Hello Rob,
    START IT UP!
    Regards, Dirk

  10. Outstanding job Rob!
