A book: Fighters of World War II
This is a book I find myself coming back to every now and then. If you are into american hardware (plus the odd Spitfire) this is a must have. Written by Jeffrey L Ethell and Robert T Sand it is jam packed with mostly Sand's colour photos and short stories about fighter pilots' and ground crew's life during the most hectic years in the air in ETO and MTO. Brilliant close ups and details of all the classics in USAAF: Spitfire, Mustang, Airacobra, Thunderbolt, Lightning and a few other threwn in for the sake of it. These photos show exactly what the aircraft looked like in service. 176 pages, all in colour from Lowe & B Hould publishers. As long as I have a smear of an interest in these aircraft I will keep the book.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, the photos are outstanding and it is seldom one has the opportunity to see so many high quality photos in one collection. Heaps of nose art, close ups and great photos of the people keeping them airborne or flying them. Super examples of how aircraft weather.
Jeff Ethell was a great historian and an accomplished warbird pilot. Sadly he was killed flying a P-38, the aircraft type his father flew in WWII. Tom Cleaver- I’m sure you knew him?
