Now Available! Updates to the 1/72 Monogram B-52

The venerable Monogram B-52D kit has been a staple (and standard) by which all later BUFF kits have been compared. The Monogram kit is still the best, most accurate in shape, BUFF kit since 1968.

Originally released without a bomb bay and “jet engine” noise, Monogram left a lot out of the kit. Most like due to the nature of accessibility to the aircraft during that time.

I decided to embark on a mission to correct that with an updated Bomb Bay and Forward Wheel Well.

If you’ve ever seen the Monogram kit, there is no bomb bay, just a flat piece of plastic with bomb halves on it. This gives you a real bomb bay to inset in it’s place.

Monogram put an aft wheel well in the forward wheel well location. This update corrects this error. The set also includes the side panel for the aft right side of the wheel well.

This will be available through 3D Scale Design’s website:

  1. Those are some nice updates/corrections Steve. I wasn’t aware of the wheel well issue.
    Looking forward to your build!

  2. The Monogram kit has two aft wheel wells depicted in the kit. Interestingly, AMT/Italeri has the wheel wells correct. ModelCollect put two forward wheel wells in there kit.

    Monogram: Two Aft
    ModelCollect: Two forward
    AMT/Italeri: Correct
